Jean-Francois Borloo, French minister of Ecology, has presented on the 20th of January a new barometer for the ‘status’ of Sustainable Development in France.
The new barometer will be used to inform French public bodies, entreprises, NGO’s and citizens about the progress on Sustainability Challenges. The indicators is a result of extensive consultation rounds and part of the Grenelle d’Environnement actions.
The barometer contains indicators related to 4 broad economic and social indicators plus 9 nine specific challenges which are climate change and clean energy, sustainable mobility, sustainable consumption and production, biodiversity, public health, social integration, the knowledge society and governance.
Frances initiative is welcomed by the European Commission, who is also working on indicators and measuring processes. The French input may be very useful in the process to define the indicators for the EU2020 strategy, the follow up of Lisbon 2010.
